A Career Path?

This morning I read a quote by Albert Einstein. He was referred to as a "theoretical physicist and philosopher". My question is, how does one choose 'philosopher' as a career? I can do that...sit around and philosophize all day but I never see that as an option in the classifieds. Just wondering.

Not a monetary salary, no. My reward is seeing you and your brothers live in harmony with God and man.

Most "philosophers" were lauded posthumously. Decartes, Plato, Nietzsche, ect. did not really earn a living philosophizing. Kinda like artists. When Monet was alive his art wasn't worth near what it is today. I guess the whole "starving artist" aura applies to philosophers.
