- Seagulls calling and waves crashing on the beach.
- Churchbells and clocks playing the Westminster chimes.
- Distant train horns' mournful howling in the night.
And...
- Car tire chains on hard packed snow.
This last sound, of course, is never heard anymore because snow is quickly removed by salt and plows which negate the use of car tire chains. But my mind still remembers the soft sound of the clinking chains moving over the packed snow.
